Case Study: Eden's Organic CSA Farm

1/14/2019

Picture
Eden's Organic CSA Farm and Garden Center is located just southeast of Dallas, TX, where they grow a diversity of fruits and vegetables and also sell a number of amenities for the garden. Founded in 2008, Owner Marie Tedei, has been growing this business and cultivating a strong community around the food she grows.

Details

Owner, Marie Tedei, was speaking with a fellow farmer, Beverly Thomas of Cold Springs Farm, whom FI had helped utilize the NRCS EQIP grant that she had been approved for. After speaking with Beverly, she decided to contact FI, as she had also been approved through the EQIP program, but did not have the cash available to purchase and erect her tunnels.

Milestone: EQIP High Tunnel Bridge Loan. These funds will be used to pay for materials and costs associated with constructing the high tunnel.

Months to Milestone: 3

Vehicle: Interest Only Bridge Loan

Outcome

FI worked with her, via our EQIP Bridge Loan Program, to provide the capital needed to purchase the high tunnels and community members volunteered their time to help her get them built and ready for inspection by her local NRCS agent.

Impact

Eden's Garden CSA Farm uses Certified Organic growing practices to produce their fruits and vegetables. They care deeply for their soil, making soil health a top priority for their farm and business. They help make their good food available to as many people as possible by accepting SNAP dollars at their Farmers' Market.

By investing in a High Tunnel, Eden's Garden will be able to extend their season growing more volume and varieties of fruits and vegetables for more weeks throughout the year. This will increase customer satisfaction and their bottom line.
