Case Study: Skinourishment

7/1/2016

Picture
SKINourishment is a skin care/repair company that offers 100% plant-based, food grade nutrition to heal our bodies from the outside, just as real food heals us from the inside.
After surviving a fire and losing all her possessions,  founder Polly Glasse turned her knowledge of alternative medicines toward developing dozens of formulations that tackle the toughest problems faced by our largest organ---the skin.

In 1996, inspired by the needs of rock climbers, Polly entered her kitchen and created the first ClimbOn Solid Lotion Bar in the marketplace. It is a top seller today and used by the #1 rock climber in the world, Tommy Caldwell, along with many others.
SKINourishment currently offers 4 distinct lines for climbers/activists, crossfitters, babies and spas. All the products are poured by hand in Wimberley, Texas, and packaged with care into 100% recyclable, reusable or compostable packaging. SKINourishment is distributed via retailers in 30 countries and is committed to making real products with 100% food-grade nutrition, that make a real difference for not only the people they touch but the planet as well.

Deal
Milestone:  Through a brand refresh, key hires and strategic, & channel specific marketing, SKINourishment hopes to grow top-line revenue 3x by the end of 2017

Months to Milestone: 18

Vehicle: Loan.

Impact
Planet:  We use food-grade ingredients that are sustainable for the planet. We use nothing remotely toxic therefore, no by products to ruin the waters or environment. Our ingredients will compost into the earth.

People:  We use food-grade ingredients. They are so clean and effective, they can be used to help animals, babies and adults. They are 100% non-toxic to the earth and inhabitants. We use PCR packaging, recyclable packaging and compostable packaging. We manufacture all our products in Texas and source as much of our ingredients locally or in the USA as possible. We are working on becoming a B Corp and putting impact metrics in place to track our social and environmental performance.

Product: By using food-grade, non-toxic ingredients, you provide no negative impact to the environment and add a large amount of positive for the world and people by helping with skin issues nothing else has been able to solve.

Procurement: We support local and small farms, including beeswax from Austin, organic aloe vera gel from South Texas. We use only food grade ingredients so it is sustainable for the environment while providing jobs.

Place:  As we grow, we will hire and educate people on the negative impact, both planet and personal health, of using synthetic and harsh chemicals on their body. It will in turn empower our employees to spread the word and help others who do not know. It will provide jobs in an industry that is contributing positively to the world.

Process:  By using food-grade ingredients that we do not need to test on animals, it keeps them safe. By providing education on how synthetic ingredients are tested on animals, it empowers people to make the choice to use or not to use synthetics. We offer sustainable ingredients. All our employees are treated with the same respect we treat ourselves in line with out beliefs and mission in this company.
