What Do We Mean by "Good Local Food"

Foodshed Investors mission is is increase the supply of good local food. But what do we mean by that? 

We see "Good Local Food" as Good, Clean, Fair, and Local...

Good products are healthy, nutritious, safe, and delicious.

Clean products are:

• free of pesticides, herbicides, chemical fertilizers and other “dirty” ingredients
• produced in ways that are beneficial to the land and environment
• without GMOs or single-use seeds.

Fair products respect the dignity and well-being of:

• workers and other stakeholders throughout the supply chain
• animals
• communities surrounding production, distribution, and retail facilities.

​Local products:

• are shipped as little as possible, minimizing carbon miles, freshness deterioration and the use non-essential treatments to enable long travel
• beneficial to local economies, creating virtuous circles of economic well being due to the multiplier effect of buying local products.
