For producers who suffered damages from the winter storms:
Even if farmers were able to get some crops out of the field just before the extreme weather hit, their fields have been completely wiped out. Diaries have been without power for over a week, with no way to milk their cows. Ranchers lost livestock due to the extreme cold. This is usually a transition time for local farmers; harvesting the last of the winter bounty, while beginning to get the first spring produce in the ground.
These producers are the ones who supply our regional food systems with healthy produce, fruits, dairy and meats. This storm has left them having to start from scratch, with no reserves to draw from because of the loss of the remaining winter crops.
