Everyone Network

Everyone Can Invest in a Local Sustainable Farm or Food Business

You Can be an Investor!

For years, government regulations largely restricted anyone who wasn't what they call "Accredited" ("SEC Bulletin: What Does It Mean To Be An Accredited Investor?") from investing in private companies.

That changed with the JOBS Act of 2012, which when implemented in 2015, opened up private company investing to every adult US citizen via so-called "Crowdfunding Portals".

For the first several years of Foodshed Investor's existence we only offered investment opportunities to "Accredited" Investors. But now, we're happy to offer investment opportunities to everyone, via debt & equity Crowdfunding.

We believe more and more entrepreneurs will choose to raise capital through public crowdfunding, where anyone can invest in private companies.

Benefits of Joining

It is fast and easy to join the FI Everyone Network. As a member, you'll get:
  • see quality food and ag deals
  • opportunity to meet and maybe help entrepreneurs in your area
  • take advantage of each other's due diligence (via CF Q&A)
  • learn how to become an investor - and a better one
  • diversify your investments by adding local private companies to public stocks
  • invitations to social events with like-minded values-based people
  • support and promote local economies and build local jobs
  • maybe even make some money
  • have a direct impact on climate change, soil restoration, and social justice!

How it Works

  1. Join by clicking the button below and completing the short form.
  2. We'll scour the web (so you don't have to) and send you links and descriptions of local sustainable food and ag companies around the country and in your local area that are raising money and are available to the general public.
  3. We'll put them together in our "Sustainable Food Investor" newsletter and send it to you periodically.
  4. All of those deals will be offered through FINRA registered crowdfunding portals. These are the websites where you can be an investor: either a lender or a equity co-owner. They're different than rewards-based sites like Kickstarter or donation sites like GoFundMe.
  5. Some of those deals will be companies that have gone through FI's Funding Readiness program. Some will have gone through incubators, or accelerators. Some will have just worked and worked on their business and fundraising plans and put the deals up themselves.
  6. To invest in a deal, you'll need to also sign up with the crowdfunding portal that's hosting that deal. To be clear: we will NOT be recommending any of these companies, or claim to have done any work vetting them. That's all up to you. And, know that it is possible you'll lose money.
  7. The "Sustainable Food Investor" newsletter also includes tips and training to become a individual impact investor... or to become a better one, plus local values-based investing events.
  8. With everyone's consent, we'll introduce you to other values-based investors in your local area for peer networking, group due diligence, and social events.
